Siding from Scratch

We've been trying to decide what to do about the siding on the addition. The rest of the house has cedar board and batten siding. The boards are 3/4 x 12, and if we use that, we're going to need some long ones. It's hard to find these days, and expensive.

So, what does Pete do? He finds an arborist with a cedar log.

and a mill.

For some reason this cedar tree needed to be removed from a park. He agreed to mill it for us, to the dimensions we need. Pete drove out to check out the operation, and to decide if the log looked good enough for what we need. It looks great.

They're going to deliver the lumber next weekend, and we'll need to store it in the shop for a while to let it dry out.

Hope there is enough to do all of the siding.

  2. When a badass dude needs wood he doesn't goto the hardware store, he goes to the forest.
